I'm Jordi — I'm a Wisconsinite living in northeast Florida that is building out her dream homestead (all while still loving Target and a good sale!)

Why Homestead-ish?

coming soon

You know that dream where you’re living in the countryside, gathering eggs from your chickens every morning, and sipping homemade kombucha on your farmhouse porch? Yeah, that’s my dream too. But here’s the thing – I also love my Target runs and shopping at Anthropologie. And you know what? That’s perfectly okay.

I started Homesteadish in 2022 because I noticed something missing in the homesteading community. While there are countless amazing homesteading blogs out there, I often felt like I didn’t quite fit the traditional mold. As a Wisconsinite turned South Carolina resident who now calls northeast Florida home (Zone 9A!), my journey hasn’t exactly been conventional.

The truth is, homesteading isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s not about checking off every box on some ultimate homesteader checklist or giving up all modern conveniences. Sometimes it’s about finding joy in brewing your own kombucha for eight years straight, while still appreciating a McDonald’s Coke with no ice. It’s about learning to keep bees while wearing your favorite Madewell gardening outfit. It’s about blending the old with the new, the traditional with the modern.

My vision for Homesteadish is simple: create a space for people who want to embrace traditional skills without completely abandoning contemporary life. Whether you’re fermenting vegetables in your apartment kitchen or dreaming of owning kunekune pigs while scrolling through social media, you belong here.

This blog is for the person who:

  • Dreams of country living but isn’t ready to give up their Target runs
  • Wants to learn traditional skills like sewing, baking, and beekeeping at their own pace
  • Believes that homesteading can look different for everyone
  • Enjoys the balance between scratch cooking and modern convenience
  • Is curious about off-grid living but still loves their creature comforts

As someone who started as an apartment homesteader and now lives off-grid on 10 acres, I understand the journey isn’t always linear. Sometimes it looks like making soup from scratch, other times it’s planning your next paddleboarding adventure. It’s about progress, not perfection.

So whether you’re here to learn about beekeeping, fermenting, sewing, or just to follow along as I figure out this homestead-ish life, welcome. This is a judgment-free zone where we can dream about our future donkeys and chickens while wearing sweats to Target. Because at the end of the day, homesteading isn’t about fitting into someone else’s mold – it’s about creating a lifestyle that works for you.

Welcome to Homesteadish – where modern convenience meets traditional skills, and where everyone belongs.
